Well, it has been a moment, and we have caught our collective breaths after an incredible fall season!
Greening Projects October Highlights
We kicked off October with a workday at the Tompkins Stairs, followed the next day by “Explore Bernal”—a walk around Bernal Heights that benefited the Tompkins Stairway Gardens. Led by our very own Karen Rhodes of SF Walk fame, we explored earthquake shacks, upcoming green spaces like Ogden Avenue Gardens, the BHRC Plaza pop-up, and the future home of a community garden at Good Prospect Community Gardens.
We toured existing green spaces, including Ogden Community Gardens and Holly Park, and even visited a secret space where we were greeted with cookies and lemonade. We wrapped up at Barebottle Brewery for a much-deserved pint and wonderful conversation.
Between events, we assisted with six grant applications for the Community Challenge Grants and welcomed several new clients seeking a green home. As San Francisco’s community greening landscape evolves, Greening Projects is stepping in to ensure neighborhood groups continue to have strong citywide support, funding opportunities, and a shared home for their work.
Visit our blog, “Growing Green SF,” to learn more about these exciting community spaces and the wonderful people behind them.
Tequila Crawl Success
Our Tequila Crawl was a hit, supported by our friends at SF Tequila Shop, who provided tasty offerings from Plaza Azul and Seafood Station—special thanks to our hosts, FTK Studios and Baukunst. We can’t wait to do it again next year! A big shout-out to our volunteer team, Eva Martinez, Ana Ligi, and Ash Smith, who helped make the night a memorable experience for all who attended.
Halloween on Cortland
Last but surely not least, we once again closed down Cortland Avenue for a safe, car-free night of trick-or-treating. The night was filled with neighbors, music, and costumes everywhere. Our sponsor for the evening was Avenue Greenlight, and we couldn’t have done it without our team of volunteers who facilitated traffic control. You know it’s a successful event when no one wants to go home!
