🎃 Volunteers Needed: Halloween on Cortland 2025! 🎃

Please help us make the Second Annual Halloween on Cortland a spooktacular success!

We’re looking for community volunteers to help create a safe, fun, and memorable Halloween celebration for all of Bernal Heights. Whether you have 2 hours or 20 hours to give, there’s a perfect volunteer opportunity for you!

🚦 Traffic Control & Safety

Essential for keeping our car-free celebration safe

What you’ll do:

  • Help set up and monitor street barricades
  • Direct pedestrian traffic flow
  • Assist with intersection safety
  • Support emergency vehicle access if needed

Time commitment: 4-6 hours on event day
Training provided: Yes, safety briefing required


👥 Safety Monitors

Be the friendly face that keeps everyone safe

What you’ll do:

  • Monitor crowd density and flow
  • Assist families with young children
  • Help with accessibility needs
  • Provide event information to attendees

Time commitment: 3-4 hour shifts available
Perfect for: Community members who love helping others


💰 Fundraising Team

Help secure resources for this year’s event

What you’ll do:

  • Reach out to local businesses for sponsorships
  • Organize fundraising activities
  • Write grant applications
  • Coordinate with existing donors

Time commitment: Flexible, mostly remote work
Skills needed: Communication, organization, writing


📢 Marketing & Outreach

Spread the word throughout Bernal Heights and beyond

What you’ll do:

  • Create and distribute flyers
  • Coordinate with local schools and community groups
  • Manage volunteer recruitment
  • Build partnerships with neighborhood organizations

Time commitment: 2-5 hours per week leading up to event
Great for: People with connections in the community


📱 Social Media & Communications

Help us build excitement online

What you’ll do:

  • Create engaging social media content
  • Manage Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts
  • Design graphics and promotional materials
  • Document the event with photos and videos

Time commitment: 3-5 hours per week
Skills needed: Social media experience, creativity, basic design


🎨 Event Setup & Decoration

Transform Cortland into a Halloween wonderland

What you’ll do:

  • Set up event signage and decorations
  • Coordinate with local businesses on storefront displays
  • Help with day-of logistics

Time commitment: Setup day before + event day
Physical requirements: Ability to lift and move materials


🏆 Costume Contest Coordinators

Make the costume competition memorable

What you’ll do:

  • Organize costume contest registration
  • Coordinate with judges
  • Manage prize distribution
  • Create fun photo opportunities

Time commitment: 2-3 hours on event day
Perfect for: Enthusiastic, organized volunteers


📋 General Event Support

Help wherever needed most

What you’ll do:

  • Assist with registration and check-in
  • Help distribute candy and treats
  • Support other volunteer teams as needed
  • Clean-up assistance
