We are looking for 40 volunteers to help us hit our goals! \nWhat we’ll be doing:\n\nClearing the fence line and preparing the site\nRemoving trash and debris\nWeeding and cleaning up underbrush\nOther supportive tasks at Kimbell Park\n\nRefreshments provided. We’ll have water and snacks to keep everyone energized. All neighbors are welcome – no gardening experience required! \nRSVP Here\n\nThe Friends of Kimbell Community Garden\nWe’re a passionate group of neighbors from Japantown\, NoPa / Anza Vista\, the Western Addition\, Alamo Square\, Lower Pac Heights\, and beyond\, united to transform an underused space at Kimbell Recreation Area into a vibrant urban garden. \nIn collaboration with SF Rec & Parks and a local landscape architect\, we are developing a proposal for a community garden at Geary Blvd (cross-street: Steiner St). The proposed space is ~5\,500 sq ft. Our vision includes 45+ raised beds and communal areas for growing\, gathering\, and connecting. \nPartnering with Greening Projects\, a registered 501(c)(3)\, we’ve launched our Growth Journey with an estimated project budget of $900\,000. Bordering the neighborhood once known as Columbia Heights\, the path has been neglected and needs transformation so neighbors can use the space and navigate safely. \nWhat is Ridge Lane Neighbors?\nRidge Lane Neighbors (RLN) was formed in 2013 by a group of Ingleside Residents who came together to transform Ridge Lane into the beautiful walkway our neighborhood deserves. We consider Ridge Lane a neighborhood treasure that some of us live on directly\, and use daily to get to work\, walk the dog\, or stroll to admire the views of the Bay and San Bruno Mountain. \nVoted as SF Park Alliance’s “2017 Volunteers of the year\,” RLN has mobilized action on the lane and has seen the successful transformation of Parcel 1 (from Josiah/Howth Avenues to Margaret/Louisberg Avenues) and Parcel 4 (connecting Caine Avenue to San Miguel Avenue). DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Tompkins Stairway Garden on the 1st Saturday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to engage in rewarding activities such as weeding\, pruning\, and litter picking\, and help maintain this quaint green space in our beloved Bernal neighborhood! \nPlease Note: Due to the 4th of July Holiday\, we have moved the workday to coincide with the Once City Day Clean-up on July 11th. \nIf you often use these stairs to travel to or from the Alemany Farmers Market\, this is the perfect opportunity to help preserve their beauty. \nWe will provide work gloves and the necessary tools for the tasks at hand. Moreover\, experts from the U.C. Master Gardener program will impart knowledge on plant care. For safety\, we recommend wearing long-sleeved tops\, long pants\, and sturdy shoes. Don’t forget to bring water to keep yourself hydrated. \nLocation: At the junction of Tompkins Avenue and Nevada Street\, right at the top of the stairs. DESCRIPTION:One City Day: Cleanup Tompkins Stairway Garden\nAbout One City Day\nJoin us for One City Day — San Francisco’s first-ever citywide day of service! On Saturday\, July 11th\, San Franciscans across all 11 districts will come together to volunteer\, connect\, and show up for the city we love. Whether you’re gardening\, cleaning up a neighborhood\, packing supplies\, or creating art\, there’s a perfect project for all ages and abilities. \nAbout This Project\nTompkins Stairway Garden – Cleanup historic staircase\, including weeding\, planting\, and general cleanup. \nWhat to Expect\n\nWhen you arrive at your project site\, your project host will welcome volunteers\, go over the day’s activities\, and provide a brief safety overview.\nVolunteers will work alongside neighbors\, community organizations\, and city partners for approximately two hours.\nThere will be an opportunity to connect with fellow volunteers after your project wraps.\n\nWhat to Wear/Bring\n\nDress in layers and wear closed-toe shoes.\nBring sunscreen and a reusable water bottle.\nAdditional supplies (gloves\, tools\, bags\, etc.) will be provided by your project host unless otherwise notified.\n\nProject Partners\nGreening Projects empowers communities to transform urban landscapes into vibrant\, sustainable environments where people and nature thrive together. \nWe partner with community groups and individuals who envision greener neighborhoods and cities\, providing expert consulting in planning\, design\, development\, and project management. \nThrough collaborative engagement and professional guidance\, we help turn environmental aspirations into tangible green spaces that strengthen community bonds\, enhance ecological health\, and create lasting positive change in the urban fabric. \nCalendar – Bernal Heights and Beyond\nGreening ProjectsGreening Projects is a dedicated nonprofit organization focused on transforming urban environments into vibrant\, sustainable community spaces.
