Dedicated attention from surrounding neighbors has transformed the site into a community greenspace and pedestrian corridor serving the Alemany Farmers’ Market and nearby schools and shopping districts. \nWe completed our garden implementation in spring 2019 and celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 8 (see our news page). The San Francisco Chronicle calls our new garden “stunning\,” “gorgeous\,” and a “cheerful splash of public art that will probably become a photo hot spot.” \nIn addition\, San Francisco Beautiful honored us with the 2019 Placemaking Award for creating a sense of identity in a public space. We are grateful to Andre Rothblatt\, founding member of Tompkins Stairway Garden\, for our multicolored\, zigzag tile design\, inspired by the “Steps to Peace” painted by youth in the Syrian town of Deir Atiyah. Arterra Landscape Architects generously provided our landscape design. \nThe stairs link Tompkins Avenue between Nevada and Putnam Streets in the southeast area of Bernal Heights. The next time you’re in the neighborhood\, stop by! \n\n\nHelp Us Grow a Greener\, Healthier San Francisco

SUMMARY:Vision Boulevard Block Party
DESCRIPTION:Join us and learn more about Vision Boulevard.  \nThe Central Freeway stub has corroded the heart of San Francisco for six decades. It looms over Division and 13th Streets and carves into the nexus of centrally-located neighborhoods and City districts. It is a significant hazard\, with several of the city’s most dangerous intersections underneath or part of the Central Freeway. Toxic vehicle and roadway particulates adversely affect nearby residents and workers. It blocks countless benefits\, like desperately needed new housing\, new transit opportunities\, and green space. Its vestigial infrastructure is a barrier to neighborhood connectivity. It must go. \n \nEnter Vision Blvd\, a grassroots San Francisco campaign that calls for the complete removal of the Central Freeway once and for all. We are a group of designers\, public school educators\, traffic engineers\, and community members who deeply care about San Francisco and want to see it reach its full potential\, but we can’t do this alone. \n \nFor the first time since the inception of Vision Blvd\, we are entering a phase of important fundraising that will help us accomplish our goals. Here are the two main areas of need we are looking to address: \n\nResearch and Studies: Vision Blvd will help sponsor studies centered on transportation\, housing\, environmental impacts\, and opportunities for green space along the 13th and Division Streets corridor. Professionals with deep expertise will conduct these studies and help us develop a proposal that satisfies all stakeholders\, looks to the future\, and addresses all community needs.\nEvents & Organization: Vision Blvd is currently a pro bono effort. However\, there are various costs\, like maintaining our digital resources and creating promotional materials. We will also host various events all over San Francisco to highlight our effort\, spread awareness\, gather community input\, and have fun. For example\, we will host a block party on June 1st\, requiring City permits\, campaign materials\, tables\, canopies\, entertainment\, food and drinks\, and many other resources.\n\n\nVision Boulevard Block Party

SUMMARY:Dine on Cortland: A Benefit for Ogden Avenue Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Experience Culinary Delights at Seafood Station on Cortland Avenue: Supporting Community Green Spaces \nOn the vibrant evening of March 20th\, Seafood Station on Cortland Avenue is not just serving up its exquisite array of seafood delights; it’s becoming a beacon of community support and transformation. By generously pledging a portion of its net income\, Seafood Station is contributing to the blossoming of the Ogden Avenue Gardens project\, a heartwarming initiative to revive the 400 block of Ogden Avenue into a picturesque haven for the community. \nA Night to Remember: Dine and Contribute \nFrom 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM\, patrons can indulge in the finest seafood selections while actively contributing to a noble cause. Located at 803 Cortland Ave.\, San Francisco\, CA 94110\, Seafood Station promises an unforgettable dining experience that satisfies the palate and the heart equally. \n\nDine on Cortland \n\nTransforming Spaces\, Fostering Community \nThe Ogden Avenue Gardens project is a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together for a common purpose. Spearheaded by passionate neighbors\, this initiative seeks to transform a neglected block into a vibrant community space brimming with life and beauty. The vision encompasses a multifaceted approach to urban renewal\, featuring a play and discovery zone for children\, a meticulously curated garden\, and a communal gathering spot designed to foster connections and create lasting memories. \nA Vision Coming to Life \nThe journey from concept to realization for the Ogden Avenue Gardens project is a story of determination\, collaboration\, and community spirit. Having secured the necessary approvals from city departments to close the block to traffic permanently\, the project is a significant step towards creating a safer\, greener\, and more inclusive environment. The remarkable achievement of garnering over $300\,000 in grants underscores the widespread support and belief in the project’s potential to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. \nAn Invitation to Make a Difference \nDining at Seafood Station on the evening of March 20th offers more than just a meal; it’s an invitation to be part of a transformative journey. As the community comes together to support the Ogden Avenue Gardens project\, each patron’s contribution becomes a stroke in the larger picture of neighborhood revitalization and environmental stewardship. This event is not just about raising funds; it’s about planting seeds of change and nurturing the growth of a space that will serve as a beacon of community pride and natural beauty. \nDine on Cortland: A Benefit for Ogden Avenue Gardens
